The year 1932 marked the beginning of a collective winemaking journey for 13 Calasetta vintners, and it is this rich history that Giovanni Murgia has encapsulated in the Cala di Seta 932 wine labels. The design is more than just a visual treat; it's a narrative of Sardinian winemaking, a tale told through the finesse of paper and print. Murgia's approach to the Cala di Seta 932 labels is a sophisticated homage to the winery's maritime roots, with a design that resonates with the soul of the sea.
Distinctive in its elegance, the label stands out with its use of Avery Dennison Fasson Cotton paper, chosen for its prestige. The tactile experience is enhanced by debossing, paired with glossy paint that mimics the shimmer of sunlight on water. This sensory journey is further enriched by a modern interpretation of the Calasetta coat of arms, rendered in metallic Pantone, and a narrative at the base of the label that weaves the past with the present.
Technical prowess is evident in the label's dimensions and printing techniques. Measuring 90mm by 136mm, the label employs debossing, Braille, and hot foil gold to achieve its distinctive look. This combination of classic and innovative elements ensures that the label not only tells the story of the wine but also enhances the consumer's engagement with the bottle, inviting them to become a part of the winery's ongoing saga.
The design process, a journey from concept to completion, spanned from February to April 2023 in Sassari. Murgia's research delved into the winery's history and the significance of the sea to the community. The result is a pair of labels that balance classic style with contemporary details, offering a visual representation of the winery's 90-year-old narrative.
Overcoming the challenge of encapsulating the winery's prestigious tradition and innovative spirit, Murgia's design has been recognized with a Bronze A' Packaging Design Award in 2024. This accolade underscores the design's ability to merge art, science, and technology, enhancing the quality of life by making the world a more beautiful place, one bottle at a time.
